Wisconsin is not just about cheese.  Although this state, bordering two of the Great Lakes, was originally founded as a farming state, particularly dairy, it has grown up into a state of industry.  The service industries are foremost in Wisconsin, with medicine and education being the foremost of these.  If this doesn’t sound like the kind of place that is ideal for vacationers looking for a relaxing, good time, you are mistaken.

Wisconsin was largely shaped by the Wisconsin glaciation of the last ice age, which makes the landscape ideal for outdoor activities and thus primed for tourism of the nature-loving sort. 

Wisconsin was originally discovered and settled by the Frenchmen in search of the Orient, and remained under French control until it was ceded to the British as part of the Northwest Territory in 1763.  The history of the area goes back before the founding of our nation, and the state’s history is rich and wonderful because of it.  The city was founded on mining towns, and the history and draw of the mines for things like lead was once a major draw. 

Wisconsin today is an industrial state, but it is still the largest producer of in the United States and is second only to California in the production of other dairy products.  This seems more exciting when you consider that it drives brands like Oscar Mayer, Tombstone, and Kraft foods to call Wisconsin home.  These places offer tours of factories as well as employing thousands of people state wide, and trips to the factories can be exciting as well as educational.
